What is this?
Short Story Writing Exercise Evening – Thursday, September 23, from 7:00 pm – 9 pm EST.
Annie Reed gave an excellent presentation on the craft of short story writing in May. We will start the fall with an evening of a short story writing exercise where attendees will be our presenters!
Put on your creative hats, fire up your imaginations, pull out those short stories you’ve started and haven’t submitted. Participants will go to Zoom break-out rooms to work on three writing exercises using either work in progress short stories or the workshop to start original stories.
Our three exercises include:
1. Short Story Opening exercise
2. Setting exercise – Getting 3 – 5 senses in your setting descriptions
3. Precision exercise – condensing descriptions to get the most out of a few words
We will all come together to share our work, get feedback, and ask questions between exercises. We will take the remaining time (20-30 minutes) to ask more questions, provide comments on the evening, and explore what members would like to see in future short story writing events.
